All you need to know about Door Entry Systems

  • What are they?
  • What are the types?

These systems are commonly referred to as front door intercom systems, front door buzzer systems as well as voice/video doorbell systems, but whatever we all wish to call them, these door entry systems are ideal for blocks of flats or apartments as they allow visitors to buzz in to the occupant of the apartment number they are visiting and the occupant can then release an electric locking mechanism in the door if they wish to allow the visitor to enter.

Whilst these can be seen on pretty much every block of flats you've ever visited, they do also come in single-residence versions for your home, which can be particularly advantageous for disability assistance, and often used for elderly residents who may feel they wish to see who is at the door first for their own safety.

In addition to this, you may have seen these systems fitted on gated entrances where you can pull up in your car, press the button, and be buzzed in through the electric gates.   We have these systems too, and some of them even offer dual relays to allow you to buzz the gate and then the front door afterwards once they have arrived through the gate to the front door.

These systems are of course available wired or wireless configurations, in audio and video setups, both of which have their benefits but also come at different price points depending on the technology used.  Having visual identification in most applications is well worth the additional cost but if all you need is the convenience of verbally checking who it is at the entrance then audio-only is typically the most obvious and economical choice.

Door Intercom System

Door Intercom System allows apartments to control one main door. If required the occupant can then release the door/gate by pressing the release button on the telephone handset.

Video Door Intercom

Video entry systems, they allow the caller to be seen. Unlike the audio entry intercoms the video entry systems come in a choice in black and white or colour video. Full colour monitor with visual and audio communication.

Wireless Door Intercom

Wireless Door Intercoms and Wireless Door Entry systems give you a great degree of flexibility over installation of a door entry system in your property, as they don't require full wiring throughout in order to operate. Utilising your wifi network, a caller at the door can be heard or seen on the receiving station in your home, and in some cases you can also use apps on your smartphone or tablet as well!

GSM Mobile Network Intercoms & Access Control

GSM Intercom systems are the best solution to long-range wireless intercoms. Unlike a typical wireless intercom which use much weaker radio-frequency signals, these GSM intercoms use the mobile network via a SIM card, just like your mobile phone, to allow for an unlimited wireless range!  What's more, because these door entry systems are not restricted by the available radio frequencies that standard wireless intercoms use, it means we are able to offer the incredible door entry system for up to 500 flats!

How do GSM intercoms work?

It's actually very simple!  The intercom station is set up to use a SIM card to make the calls when a button is pressed at the main gate or perhaps the communal door on a block of flats.

This will call the pre-defined telephone number(s) of the occupant - this can be their landline number or mobile number - or both!  That's right, you can also set these up to call one number - let's say the land-line number in this case - and if there's no answer after a predetermined amount of time, then it will attempt to call their mobile number instead.  Pretty nifty right?

This incredible technology also means that you can grant access from anywhere in the world!  That's right! Because the GSM network works internationally, so does your intercom!  Need to let a cleaner into your holiday home in Portugal?😁 or wherever,  No problem!  Need to be able to grant access back home while you're off on holiday?  Easy peasy!

Another incredible feature these systems offer, is that you can phone the intercom to unlock the door providing keyless entry!  This works by means of a white-list feature, where if you know the phone number of the SIM card in the GSM Intercom, and you were to call the door intercom from your mobile phone as you approach the property, if the intercom recognises your telephone number from its list of authorised numbers, the intercom will trigger and unlock the door for you!

What Network To Choose

It is important to choose the right network carrier.  If you know the network that gets the best coverage in your area then go with them!  Whether that be Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom, Three, or any other preferred network - as long as you know it has good coverage.

If you need help with this - you are best to check with others in the area to see what their experience is with their network's mobile signal, but if this is not possible then you can also check the mobile signal coverage online through various independent websites.

Home Intercom and Door Entry Systems

Whether you live in a terraced house, bungalow, detached property, semi detached house or three storey town house, have you considered how much easier answering the door would be if you could do so without having to go to the door? How many times have you heard the doorbell ring, or a knock on the door, and wanted to know who it was without getting spotted (we all have that neighbour or door-to-door salesperson we really don't want to speak to!) only to get caught out by the curtain twitch? Perhaps you are looking to make it easier to open the door to visitors as mobility issues make it more difficult to do easily and quickly.

A door entry system or intercom is the ideal solution!

Perhaps you just want a standalone system to be able to see or speak to a caller at the door before deciding to go to the door and let them in. Maybe you want to create a complete access control system that would allow you to see or speak to your caller, and then let them in with the touch of a button. If you are looking for an intercom system or door entry system for you home, then this is the place to look. With a range of door entry systems and intercoms including audio only, video calling, and wireless intercom systems, there's plenty here to choose from! Within the range here we have options for wall mounted handsets (audio and visual), cordless handsets, and even systems that can work with your smartphone or tablet - meaning you can see who is at the door, even if you're not at home!

Door Entry and Intercom Systems for Flats and Apartments

Are you looking to set up an intercom or door entry system for a block of flats or apartments? There's no need to have a jumble of different intercoms at the door, all connected to different flats within the building - simply upgrade to a system that enables multiple apartments to connect to the same call unit!

In this section we've put together a range of Door Entry and Intercom Systems ideal for use in flats or apartments where there is a main entry door, but two or more properties to be accessed. The range of systems here include video intercoms, wireless intercoms and GSM Mobile Network  Intercoms, giving you great flexibility in terms of installation and operation, and multiple options for the number of properties linked to the main entry point. Within the range we have options for wall mounted handsets, cordless handsets, and even connection to mobile phones and smart phones, making it easier to create systems that work with multiple users. Access Control for commercial premises is more and more common these days. Similarly within this section we've got systems that are suitable for multiple occupancy office premises, where there are a number of businesses operating from the same building, and no centralised reception area.
